New
Bar/Restaurant Coming To Downtown Appleton
by Bob Lowe
March 9, 2005
Amid
concerns that there are already too many bars in downtown
Appleton, the city’s Plan Commission
voted 4-1 this week to recommend approval of a special use
permit to allow for the construction of the $1.8 million,
8,000-square-foot, two-story Anduzzi’s Sport Bar at
403 W. College Ave.
If approved by the Common Council at its March 16 meeting,
the 350-seat sports bar/restaurant will be built in the former
Kafura Electric store, directly across from the Fox Cities
Performing Arts Center. An adjacent building on the site
will be demolished to accommodate the project.
This
will be the second Anduzzi’s bar in northeast
Wisconsin. The other one is in Ashwaubenon.
The lone dissenting vote was cast by commission member
Richard Gosse.
JAZZ
ROOTS
The Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble,
under the direction of Fred Sturm, goes back to the roots

The
first night concert will begin with Ferdinand LaMenthe "Jelly
Roll"
Morton, widely recognized as the first great composer and
jazz pianist.
The
trip continues with songs by Louis Armstrong, the big bands
of Duke Ellington and Count Basie, the Bop styling of John
Birks "Dizzy"
Gillespie and Charlie Parker, the cool jazz of Miles Davis
and the free style of Ornette Coleman. Admission is free
with ticketed reservations.
