Fox Valley Symphony Announces Its 2004-2005 Performances

The
Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra will feature a variety-packed
lineup for its 2004-2005 season, including teen violinist
Caitlin Tully and David Clayton-Thomas and Blood, Sweat and
Tears. The new season gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28
with Sir James Galway, who was knighted by the Queen of England
in 2001 for his extraordinary flute performances. He will
perform Mozart’s "Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major."
The symphony will play another Mozart’s piece, "Overture
to the Marriage of Figaro," Shostakovich’s "Symphony
No. 1, Opus 10 in F Minor," Debussy’s "En
Bateau Clair de Lune, Little Shepherd" and Mancini’s
"Baby Elephant Walk," "Pennywhistle Gig"
and "Pink Panther."
Pianist
Nicholas Roth will present on Oct. 16 Gershwin’s "Cuban
Overture Piano Concerto in F," an eclectic blend of impressionism
and jazz by one of America’s foremost interpreters of
the music of Gershwin. "The Nutcracker" with the
Moscow Classical Ballet returns to the Fox Cities Performing
Arts Center stage at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-4. The performance will
feature the inspired sounds of some of Tchaikovsky’s
most brilliant melodies with the dancing of one of the world’s
best ballet companies. Tully, a 17-year-old violinist who
is a student of Itzhak Perlman, will be the featured guest
at the Feb. 11 concert.
Also
on the bill as Mendelssohn’s "Overture to a Midsummer’s
Night’s Dream, Opus 21," Edward Green "Music
for Sheakespeare," Chausson’s "Poeme Opus
25", Saint-Saens’ "Introduction and Rondo
Capriccioso, Opus 28 and Tchaikovsky’s "Romeo and
Juliet Overture-Fantasy." The voices of the White Heron
Chorale and the Lawrence Concert Choir, under the direction
of Richard Bjella, will perform with the FVS on April 8 in
a program entitled "An Evening of Bernstein and Stravinsky.
The Bernstein piece is "Overture to Candide Chichester
Psalms and the Stravinsky number will be "Symphony of
Psalms and "Firebird Suite." Clayton-Thomas and
Blood, Sweat and Tears will close out the season on May 7
with such noted selections as "You’ve Made Me So
Very Happy" and "Spinning Wheel."
