Solid Entertainment Lineup Bring Major Stars To Northeast

People looking for entertainment in northeast Wisconsin over
the next several days have a delectable feast of choices comparable
to a diner at an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet. The lineup
includes the Broadway musical "Chicago," country
singer Dolly Parton, the bands Chicago and Earth Wind and
Fire, several Halloween-related events," and country
crooner Kenny Rogers.
Yesterday
began the national tour of the Broadway musical, "Chicago,"
at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in downtown Appleton.
The engagement runs through Sunday Oct. 31.
The 29-year-old show is based on two real life murderesses
who kill their lovers and a manipulative lawyer who turn them
into media celebrities. Appearing in the lead roles are Bianca
Marroquin as Roxie Hart, Brenda Braxton as Velma Kelly and
Tom Wopat as maser attorney Billy Flynn. It has won six tony
Awards and a Grammy Award for its cast recording.
"Chicago"
has grossed more than $600 million worldwide, has been performed
more than 10,000 times worldwide and has been seen in 19 countries
by 12 million people. The movie version, starring Richard
Gere, Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones, grossed more
than $170 million and became the 10th most successful film
in 2002. The musical has the distinction of being Broadway’s
longest running revival and continues to enjoy standing room
only audiences in its eight year at the Ambassador Theater
in New York City. It features such songs as "And All
That Jazz," "Razzle Dazzle," "Me and My
Baby," "My Own Best Friend," "We Both
Reached for the Gun" and "When You’re Good
to Mama."
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 2
and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday Oct. 31.
